BBQ for a Cause: Fundraiser for Puerto Rico relief
Dear C-SOPS family and friends,
As you all know, University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez (UPRM) is one of our core partner universities who have been with us since the very start of C-SOPS. Following the devastation of Hurricane Maria and Irma, UPRM remains closed and the entire island of Puerto Rico in a state of crisis. The suffering has hit more closer to home as we recently heard back from few of our friends at UPRM that they are suffering and need immediate help.
We also have students from Puerto Rico studying at Rutgers who were not able to reach out to their loved one’s until this week. Their immediate and extended families were also effected by the Hurricane. Some lost roof, some lost belonging in flood waters, some lost food due to lack of power.
As they say charity begins at home so we have decided to take matters in our own hands and take care of our own. Jonathan Colon one of the Ph.D students started this to help his family and friends and now we are joining him to extend efforts to help our UPRM family as well. We are organizing a BBQ to raise funds to help families of our students and their extended families.
Please come have lunch with us and support a great cause. Cash and/or supplies are welcome. All proceeds will go to the families in need.
