The NSF-funded Engineering Research Center in Structured Organic Particulate Systems (ERC-SOPS) will host a summer research experience for undergraduates (REU) in pharmaceutical science and engineering. Students will be involved in cutting-edge research and learn about pharmaceutical science and engineering from leading academic mentors.The center is headquartered at Rutgers University and partners include Purdue University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez.
ERC-SOPS bring together a cross-disciplinary team of engineers and scientists as well as industry leaders to improve the way pharmaceuticals, foods and agriculture products are manufactured bringing this research to the forefront. C-SOPS focuses on advancing the scientific foundation for the optimal design of SOPS with advanced functionality while developing the methodologies for their active control and manufacturing.A list of suggested research topics may be found in the table below.
The students in the ERC-SOPS REU are combined with a larger program called RISE (Research In Science and Engineering), this programis jointly sponsored by two of the nation's leading public research institutions -- Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey and the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ).

We have rolling admissions and will typically start reviewing applications in January. Reviews will continue until all spaces are filled (usually during March). We recommend that you apply early as admission is competitive. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
